Discovery Workshops
Below are the discovery workshops CDS teachers are currently offering. Workshops are an excellent way for children to investigate their talents and gifts while having fun! The teachers involved are devoted to providing an enriching experience in an encouraging, Christian environment. If you are interested in signing your child up for a discovery workshop, please review all of the following information, as well as the specifics for each workshop. Please note that there are changes in the registration process. Registration for workshops is now completely online. Registration must be completed by the deadline listed for the workshop. You may register for a workshop up until 11:59 p.m. on the deadline day. After the deadline, an additional late fee of $20 will be implemented. If you need help with registration, please contact the teacher conducting the workshop or ask for assistance from Stacey Fleming or Dawn Osborn in the office. You are highly encouraged to make payment online. If necessary, you may send in a check in a labeled envelope; this must be done after registering online in order for your registration to be processed. You will receive a confirmation e-mail after your registration is complete. It is important to note that registration will be given on a first-come, first-served basis. Once a workshop is full, registration for that workshop will be closed. In order to ensure quality activities, teachers have listed a minimum and maximum number of students. If the minimum requirement is not met, it will be up to the discretion of the teachers whether the workshop will take place. In the event that the workshop is cancelled, you will be notified and your payment will be returned to you. If the workshop exceeds the maximum, the teacher may decide to open additional sections of the workshop. In that instance, you would be notified of alternate dates. Students are expected to be picked up promptly at the workshop dismissal time. Parents should park in the west parking lot and pick up students at the west entrance (K-2 carline). Unless otherwise noted, students will be picked up at this standard location. If your child is to be picked up in the building, please be sure to park in the parking lot and not in the circle drive. Bon Appétit! Beginning Cooking with Mrs. Lisa & Mrs. Farris – New Recipes! We will learn about measurement and reading directions as we prepare and enjoy a variety of delicious, nutritious foods. In addition, we will learn about table manners and how to set a table. At the end of each session we will enjoy the fruits of our labors on the beautiful tables we have set. Beautiful Banners with Mrs. Tosic We will be creating a name banner using scrapbook paper, ribbon, and embellishments. Students will choose their color scheme and shapes before the workshop, as we will assemble the banners during the workshop. K-2 “Lil Picasso’s” Beginning Art with Mrs. Joy and Miss Amy* We will be using different mediums and will be creating a new work of art each of the four sessions. We will explore several different styles of art through historical artists’ example. At the end of each session your child will bring home his/her masterpiece. The cost includes all art supplies, and each child will receive an art palette and apron with their name painted on each.   Contact: joyreckord@centraldayschool.com   *For those of you who are not familiar with Miss Amy, she graduates this semester with an Art degree from the University of Memphis. She has substituted for Dr. Hester, the lower elementary Art teacher this year. This past summer, Amy was the Art teacher in the Central Learning Center’s summer camp program. Currently, she is working in our CLC afterschool care program.

3-5 “Matisse Masters” Art with Mrs. Joy and Miss Amy We will explore how to use color, pattern, and shape to create a masterpiece. We will talk about how to express movement through patterns of art. This class will consist of four sessions each building on the next to create one work of art.We will be using watercolor, paint pen, and ink. 6-8 – Landscape Painting with Klimt –Painting with Mrs. Joy and Miss Amy Come have fun and paint with Mrs. Joy and Mrs. Amy! We will be creating an acrylic landscape painting on canvas board. We will talk about the basics of creating a painting. We will explore the importance of composition, mixing paint, and subject matter to create a masterpiece. Cost includes: an acrylic paint set (which at the end of the 4 sessions may be taken home to keep), 1 canvas board, and an art palette with their name painted on it.
