Academic and Spiritual Development |
| Our goal is to continue the excitement for learning in the elementary grades. Our instructional curriculum with a Christ-centered focus encourages the educational and spiritual growth of each student. In first and second grade, the language arts program is phonics-based reading along with spelling. English grammar also begins in the lower elementary grades. Great importance is placed on the language arts program as we believe reading is the foundation for student success in other subjects as well. In science, students learn principles and explore concepts through multiple learning experiences including hands-on activities in the science lab. Students are taught to view the world as God’s creation and His orderly plan is revealed through the study of earth, biological, and physical sciences. A Science Fair is held in the Spring where students learn to investigate God’s world utilizing the scientific method. Basic computation skills and procedures are taught in math along with logical reasoning, solving word problems, and mathematical language. Emphasis is placed on reinforcement and retention of math facts. A Christian world-view is the focus in Social Studies/History curriculum as it is designed to help students achieve a greater understanding of the society we live in and an awareness of the world around them. Geography and map skills are taught in the elementary grades. The role of responsible citizenship is also discussed and encouraged. Bible is taught daily with an emphasis being placed on students understanding that they are uniquely created and God has a plan and purpose for every life. Students also learn Bible memory verses. The elementary schedule also includes instruction by teaching specialists in Spanish, art, computer, library, music, P.E. and science lab. Students attend a thirty-minute chapel once a week where Christ’s love is shared as students worship, praise, pray and sing. |
