As a follow-up to last week’s first e-mailed Tuesday Informer, our research showed that only 43% of parents who received the email opened it. That means more than half of our parents missed some very important information about the new school year! A vital part of the great relationship we want between our parents and CDS is communication. Our e-newsletter information will be relevant and significant to your child. We won’t send junk emails or trivia, but information that is valuable to you as a parent. The Tuesday Informer is online at the school’s website, www.centraldayschool.com. A printed copy is also available in the school office. Make sure you are an “informed” parent - don’t miss out on vital information about lunches, special events, schedule changes and more!

We are excited about working with Signature Fundraising for our fall fundraiser. Students will participate in a “kick-off” assembly on Friday, August 28 and packets/catalogs will be sent home at that time. There are brochures with something for everyone and great prizes for the students. Help support CDS by offering these items to your family and friends — no door-to-door selling! Don’t forget to have your customers make the check payable to you and then you will write one check to CDS-PTF. Please read directions attached to fundraiser envelope. If you choose not to participate, the PTF gladly accepts cash donations. Questions? Please call Jennifer Sisson (489-7225).

Forgotten Items
In the mornings if you notice your child has left something at home or in the car and you want to bring it to them at school, please leave it in the office with one of the secretaries. In order to keep from disrupting the class, it will be delivered to your child at lunch. Please do not take it to the classroom yourself.

Lunches
• Students are responsible for bringing a lunch to school. The school will provide a “Lunchable” type meal for students who forget their lunch at the cost $5.00. This program is in place for emergencies only. Please do not use this regularly as your child’s lunch program. A notification will be sent home in the Tuesday Informer indicating if your student required a lunch from the school. Payment should be made within the week.
• Students are not allowed to call for parents to bring lunches.
• Sharing or exchanging lunches is not permitted.
• Students are not allowed to heat or refrigerate lunches, so lunches must be packed accordingly.
• Students are not allowed to bring carbonated beverages to school. Beverages and food should not be sent in glass bottles or containers. Drinks with red food coloring are not allowed in the classroom for lunch, snacks or parties. These include red colored Kool-aid, Gatorade or Hi-C fruit punch, etc. Red drink stains cannot be removed from the carpet.
• Parents are welcome to have lunch in the classroom or second floor lobby with the student after signing in at the school office.
• Parents are asked not to bring “fast-food” lunches for children except on Monday and Friday.
|
Phone Use in the Office
Students will not be called to the telephone except in the case of an emergency. Parents are requested not to call in a message for the student unless it is urgent. Students may not use the classroom telephone, office telephone or church telephones without permission from school personnel. This includes calling for forgotten lunches, text books, library books, homework, etc. |
Cell Phone Use
Since all communications with students should be done through the school office, there is no need for a student to use a cell phone during the school day. Therefore, all student cell phones should be turned off upon arriving at the school and kept in their backpacks. Students are not to have cell phones and cell phone accessories out during the school day. Faculty or staff will confiscate any cell phone in a student’s possession during school hours. Any cell phone taken from a student will be returned to parents in the school office at the end of the day. Repeated violations would constitute disruptive behavior and will be dealt with accordingly. Any communication whether text, voice mail, or other that occurs during or relevant to the school day may be reviewed by the administration. |
|
Snacks
Students (K-5) have snack time in the morning. Please pack a healthy snack for your child. Some healthy snack ideas include: whole-wheat crackers, baked crackers, unsweetened Cheerios-type cereal, cut-up vegetables, fresh or dried fruit, string cheese, peanut butter, yogurt/pudding (in tubes), breadsticks, animal crackers, pretzels, popcorn (lightly salted/buttered), trail mix, snack crackers (crackers with cheese or peanut butter), granola bars, bagels, vanilla wafers, and water bottle or sugar free drink.

Checking Out
Parents should make every effort to schedule appointments (i.e. routine doctor, dental or eye appointments) after school hours. Interruptions during the day should be kept to a minimum as it disrupts a student’s learning process. If a student has an appointment, a parent should send a note to the teacher stating the reason for early dismissal with the date and time student is to be dismissed. We request this note/email is to be sent to the teacher at least 24 hours prior to the appointment. At the early dismissal time, the parent will go to the office to sign out the student, and the staff will call for the child. This includes parents of students in classrooms on the first floor. No child will be dismissed from the classroom without approval and a call from the office staff. Children may not be picked up from the information desk or sent to any outside door. Please do not put teachers and staff in the untenable position of asking them to violate policy. If you are planning to check out a sibling at the same time, the sibling must have a note as well. |
